Breezes of Confirmation

Breezes of Confirmation is a text used in the first year of the Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program. It fosters literacy and builds the power of expression. A key concept explored in this module is that of confirmation – the understanding that when one strives to achieve a noble goal, God assists, and the seemingly impossible can become possible.
The story follows a thirteen-year-old girl, Musonda, as well as her cousin, siblings, and friends, who are spending the school holidays together and starting to think about what choices they need to make in the present to work towards their goals for the future.

Walking the Straight Path 

Walking the Straight Path is a text used in the first year of the Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program. It brings together twenty stories from several different cultures, each with a universal theme. Many of the stories are well known, have been recounted in numerous ways, and in this sense belong to the heritage of humankind. In Walking the Straight Path the stories are told in a way that teaches concepts related to moral development and develops language skills.

Glimmerings of Hope

Glimmerings of Hope is a text used in the first year of the Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program. It explores the choices and attitudes that contribute to hope, and conversely to despair. It emerged out of the experience of a group working with young people in Africa, many of whom are faced with difficult choices in societies torn by civil strife. The story follows 12-year-old Kibomi who embarks on a journey in search of his sister after the shooting of his parents in their village.

All materials focus on cultivating language skills and enhancing the power of expression. Several resources in the first category also address mathematical concepts and social issues, while others encourage a scientific approach to investigating physical, social, and spiritual realities. While the moral principles in the first group of materials are inspired by Bahá’í teachings, they are not religious texts, nor do they deal with explicitly Bahá’í topics. As such, they are suitable for and used by a wide range of organisations, including educational institutions, seeking to enrich their programs for junior youth. The current titles in this category are:

In addition, the program uses a second category of materials in its work with youth, focusing on topics directly related to the Bahá’í Faith. These titles explore questions that junior youth often face, such as the nature of free will and predestination and the intricate relationship between will and knowledge. The following resources are currently included in this group:

  • Power of the Holy Spirit
  • Rays of Light

The spiritual empowerment program is typically delivered in small groups, formed within villages or neighbourhoods and facilitated by older youth. To prepare these facilitators, known as “animators,” the Ruhi Institute is developing a series of supplementary courses, beginning with Book 5 of its main sequence, aimed at equipping older youth and adults for this service.
